Savas Legend Jacket

A western yoke is usually applied. It is stitched across a shoulder as a shape, and underneath it the jacket is the jacket it would have been anyway. On the Legend it is subtle, which is the harder version: a yoke is a shaped panel across the shoulder, the shoulder is where a jacket is decided, and a yoke drawn quietly has to be drawn correctly because there is no ornament covering for it. Everything after that is quiet too. Three exterior zip pockets rather than flaps, so the front reads as a surface. Adjustable gussets at the sleeve, which is a tailor's answer to a problem leather cannot solve by stretching. Antique brass hardware. Hickory calf suede, hand made in the USA. And inside, a polka dot silk lining that nobody but the person wearing it will ever see, which is the detail that tells you what kind of house made the jacket.

We wanted one leather zip jacket in the store that was neither a moto nor a bomber. This is the third thing, and the house's own position on it is that it does not change, which is a position we are sympathetic to.

Savas cuts and sews some of its work in its Nashville atelier and sends the rest to Italy, and it states which on every piece; the Legend is one of the American ones.

Sized 40 and 44 on the house's numbered run. The house cuts this to a slim tailored fit and says so, and its own guidance is to take a larger size if you intend to layer a sweater under it. That is worth repeating rather than paraphrasing away, because a slim leather jacket sized to a shirt and then asked to carry a knit is the single most common way one of these gets returned. A zip front tells you the truth about the fit faster than a button front does.

Zipped, as a jacket. Hickory is the warm end of the house's range and it goes where black will not: against olive, against denim, against a cream knit, against grey. The yoke wants a plain shoulder under it, so a shirt rather than a hood.

Suede wants a brush and not a cream, which is as true of a calf suede as of any other. Keep it off standing water, brush the nap back rather than rubbing at a mark, and let anything beyond that go to a leather and suede specialist, which is Savas's own instruction.
