Swampgod Stovel Sweatpants

The sweatpant is a cotton garment by definition and by history, so a sweatpant in 100 percent wool is not a material upgrade, it is a different object wearing the same shape. Wool insulates when it is damp where cotton stops insulating entirely, it resists odor to a degree cotton does not, and it recovers its shape after a day of sitting rather than bagging at the knee and staying there. It also drapes: a wool knit falls, where a cotton fleece stands away from the leg. What you get is a garment with the familiarity of a sweatpant and the hand of a sweater, worn in the situations a sweatpant is worn in, which are largely situations where cotton is the wrong fiber. Why we selected it

This is the single most interesting idea in the house’s line, and it is an idea rather than a graphic. We wanted the version of a familiar garment that is quietly built out of the correct fiber instead of the traditional one.

Swampgod normally makes its argument through construction, and this is the one garment in the line where the argument is entirely in the material.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent wool. We do not hold a color for this piece and we do not hold a construction description beyond the name. Made in Italy.

Fit notes

We hold no fit description and no measurements. The size is 32. A wool knit has more recovery than a cotton fleece, so it comes back to shape after sitting rather than holding the bend at the knee. Because this house builds one piece at a time, sizing and appearance vary from piece to piece. Please ask us.

Care

Wash by hand in cool water if you wash it at all, press the water out between towels rather than wringing it, and dry flat. A wool knit hung wet will grow at the waist and stay grown. Wool needs airing far more often than it needs washing. Our care guidance covers the rest.
