Almost everything on this jean is an adjustment. There is an elasticated waistband and an integrated belt, which are two solutions to the same problem stacked on top of each other. There are two press snap side pockets, which fasten rather than gape. And there are two adjustable drawcord cuffs, which let the wide leg be gathered at the ankle or left open. Taken together they turn a single wide-leg jean into a garment with a range of silhouettes rather than one, and that is a genuinely different proposition from a jean that fits or does not. The cloth underneath all of it is straightforward: one hundred percent cotton in indigo, made in Japan. Indigo is a surface dye that sits on the outside of the yarn rather than penetrating it, which is why denim fades where it is abraded and why a trouser this heavily detailed will eventually show its own wear pattern at every point of adjustment.

Why we selected it

The wide jean is everywhere and most versions of it offer no way to modulate the volume. This one gives you four, and the drawcord cuffs are the one that changes the trouser most.

Comme des Garçons Homme treats a jean as a garment to be engineered rather than a garment to be authenticated, which is why this one has more hardware on it than most.

Fit notes

An elasticated waist with a belt over it means the waist is genuinely adjustable and the size is decided by the seat and the thigh instead. The drawcords change the whole line: open, this is a wide jean; drawn, it is a tapered one with volume held above the ankle. Cotton denim relaxes about half an inch through the day and comes back with a wash.

Styling

With the Homme Heavy Weight Black Hoodie or the Homme Jersey Hoodie. Under the Homme Bomber Jacket. Cuffs drawn if the shoe is worth seeing, open if it is not.

Care
