Comme des Garçon Sweater Vest Hoodie

A hood is a sleeve-adjacent idea. It belongs to outerwear and to sportswear, both of which assume arms, and putting one on a sleeveless vest removes the assumption and leaves the hood doing something else entirely: framing rather than covering. Making it a pointed hood commits to that, because a pointed hood has a silhouette even lying flat on the back. The rib running down the front is the other half, giving a plain sleeveless shape a vertical to be read along.

Why we selected it

Layering pieces this light usually have nothing to say. This one is a genuinely odd object, and odd objects are the ones that get worn.

Combining two garments that have no business being combined is a main-line habit of long standing, and here it is done cheerfully and at small scale.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent polyester. Made in Japan. Sleeveless vest with a pointed hood and a knitted rib pattern down the front. Color: black.

Fit notes

Sleeveless and cut to go over things, so size it for what it is layering rather than for the body. The rib front has some give in it; the rest does not.

Styling

Over the Ruffle Top or the Eyelet Button-Up, where the sleeves come out from under it and the vest frames the front. With the Wide Pleated Trousers.

Care

Polyester washes cool and easily and will not survive a hot iron, and a ribbed panel should be left to recover on a hanger rather than pressed flat. Our care guidance covers the rest.
