4S Designs Long Sleeve Organza Shirt Blazer

Organza is a plain weave made from very fine, very highly twisted filament yarns, and its whole character comes from that twist rather than from mass. It is sheer, it is crisp, and it holds a shape while weighing almost nothing, which is the opposite of how tailoring normally gets its structure. Tailoring gets structure from weight and from what is built underneath it. This garment gets it from the cloth alone, and that is why it exists. The cut sits between a shirt and a blazer, with the ease and the front of the first and the shoulder and the intent of the second, and in a transparent cloth that hybrid stops being a styling idea and becomes a construction problem: everything you would normally conceal is on view. The viscose lining is the answer to it, and viscose is the right answer, because it is a fluid fiber that adds opacity without adding the body that would kill the organza’s hand. In navy, which reads as a solid color at rest and as a shadow when it moves.

Why we selected it

A tailored garment cut from a cloth you can see through is a proposition rather than a variation on something, and there are very few of them made properly. This one is made properly.

Hybrid garments are a habit of this house rather than an occasional experiment, and a shirt that is also a blazer is the shortest version of it we have seen.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent silk organza, lined in one hundred percent viscose. Made in Italy. Cut as a shirt blazer, long in the sleeve. Color: Navy.

Fit notes

It sits on the Italian jacket scale rather than a shirt scale, so it wants choosing for the shoulder and the chest the way a jacket does. A sheer cloth shows the line of everything under it, including the shoulder seam of whatever you layer beneath, so it rewards a plain base. Organza does not stretch and does not recover, so it holds its shape rather than moving with you.

Styling

Over the Knit BD Shirt Western or the Long Sleeve Woven Polo, where a plain knit under a sheer weave is the whole effect. With the H. Sartorial Pant or the Triple Pleat Pant, both of which are black and neither of which competes. Open rather than fastened, since the front is where the transparency reads.

Care

Treat this as a silk garment and keep it out of a machine. If it is pressed, press it on the reverse through a cloth at low heat, because organza’s crispness is a property of the twist and a hot iron flattens it permanently. Our care guidance covers the rest.
