NemeN Ash Jumbo Pocket T-shirt – Grey

The pocket is the whole garment. It is oversized, which is where the name comes from, and it is cut from a different cloth than the body: 59 percent cotton and 41 percent nylon against a body that is 100 percent cotton. That is not a decorative contrast. A patch pocket in the same soft jersey as the shirt goes slack within a season and hangs open; a pocket with 41 percent nylon in it holds its mouth square and keeps its shape against a body that is deliberately softer. The jersey itself is a compact knit, which is a tighter, denser construction than an ordinary tee jersey and the reason this reads as a garment rather than as an undershirt. The fit is relaxed. Made in Italy.

Why we selected it

We wanted a plain tee that does not go out of shape, and the honest reason to buy this one is the pocket cloth. Everything else about it is a well-made tee.

NemeN’s jersey is where the house’s habit of developing two cloths for one garment shows up at its smallest scale.

The colour

Gray, and the record gives no further name than that. On a two-cloth garment a mid gray is the version where the pocket reads as a change of texture rather than as a change of color, which is the quieter of the two ways to wear this shirt.

Body: 100 percent cotton, compact jersey. Pocket: 59 percent cotton and 41 percent nylon. Relaxed fit, with a single large patch pocket at the chest. Made in Italy.

Fit notes

Relaxed through the body rather than boxy, so it falls from the shoulder without standing away from it. Compact jersey has less give than an open jersey and it holds a neckline better, which is what stops a plain cotton tee going wavy at the collar. Cotton at 100 percent in the body will shrink slightly on a first hot wash, so wash it cool from the start.

Styling

Care

The pocket has nylon in it and an iron cannot tell where the pocket ends, so treat the whole shirt as the more delicate cloth: cool wash, no tumble drying, and a warm iron rather than a hot one. Our care guidance covers the rest.
