Paychi Guh LS Relaxed Crew – Black

Three decisions, and all three are about where a sweater sits. The shoulder is dropped, which moves the sleeve seam down the arm and takes the structure out of the top of the garment, so the whole thing hangs from the neck rather than from the shoulder line. The hem is slightly elasticized, which is the counterweight: without it a dropped-shoulder sweater falls straight and reads as a shape with no bottom to it, and a gently drawn hem gives it somewhere to end. The third is the seam. This house runs a contrasting color along a seam as its signature, which on a black sweater is the only visible incident anywhere on the garment and is therefore doing all the work of telling you the piece was designed rather than produced. It is a small thing, deliberately, and it is placed where a sweater is normally uninteresting. One hundred percent cashmere, made in Mongolia.

Why we selected it

The relaxed cashmere crew is the most crowded category in knitwear and almost every version of it is shapeless rather than relaxed. The elasticized hem is the detail that separates the two, and it is the reason we took this one.

Paychi Guh’s contrasting seam is the house’s smallest recurring gesture, and on a black sweater it is the only place you will see it.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cashmere. Relaxed crew neck with dropped shoulders, a slightly elasticized hem, and a contrasting-color seam detail. Color: Black. Made in Mongolia.

Fit notes

We do not hold measurements. A dropped shoulder means the garment does not need to match your shoulder width, so it fits a wider range of people than a set-in sleeve at the same nominal size, and it will always read looser than its size suggests. The elasticized hem holds the bottom in, so the volume sits at the body rather than at the hip.

Styling

Over the Worsted Cashmere L/S Crew if it is cold enough to want two layers of cashmere, which in Santa Fe it sometimes is. Under the Premium Cashmere Collar Cardigan. With the Dreamy Cashmere Furry Vest over it, where the seam and the pile are the only two textures in play.

Care

Hand wash cool with a cashmere wash, press between towels, and dry flat. Fold rather than hang. Do not stretch or press the elasticized hem, which is the part of this sweater that will not recover if it is pulled out of shape. Our care guidance covers the rest.
