Tibi Slip Cami

The cami is where a slip cloth earns its keep, because there is almost nothing here but the fabric. Acetate twill drapes with a weight that no light cotton or polyester achieves, so a plain cami cut from it hangs cleanly from the shoulder instead of clinging at the ribs, which is the difference between a garment and an undergarment. The neckline is straight rather than a V, which is a firmer line and makes it easier to wear alone. Tibi lists it among its Without Fail pieces, the ones a wardrobe is built around rather than the ones that pass through, and this is the most literal example of the idea in the whole range: it goes with everything, and it is meant to.

Why we selected it

It is the layer everything else in this house is designed to sit on top of. We would carry it for that reason alone, and it happens to be good on its own as well.

One hundred percent acetate, in a drapey twill. Made in China. Black. Straight neckline.

Fit notes

Cut to hang rather than to fit closely, so it skims rather than grips. No stretch in the cloth. Sold as a matching set with the Slip Skirt if you want the pair in one cloth.

Styling and care

With the Slip Skirt as a set, under the Cashmere Suiting Liam Blazer, or under the Tropical Wool Convertible Overall Skirt with the straps up. Acetate cannot take heat and weakens when wet, and acetone will dissolve it outright, so dry clean and press cool through a cloth if at all.
