Tibi Pebble Sable Square Neck Cross Back Tank

A base layer is judged almost entirely on what it does not do. It should not cling, should not show through, and should not announce itself under whatever goes over it. A pebbled crepe answers all three at once: the surface is faintly textured rather than smooth, so it does not read as shiny and does not telegraph what is underneath it, and it stays away from the body rather than following it. What Tibi adds is a proper front and a proper back. The neckline is squared, which is a more decided line than a scoop and more forgiving than a high one. The back crosses, and the crossing is functional rather than decorative, since it can swing open. That means a garment that is completely plain under a blazer and not plain at all when the blazer comes off.

Why we selected it

A tank does not need a philosophy. This one is the base layer we reach for because it holds its shape, does not go transparent, and has something happening at the back for the moment it stops being a base layer.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent polyester, in an Italian pebbled crepe. White. Square neckline with a crossed back that opens.

Fit notes

Cut clean and close without gripping, with the crossed back setting how it sits across the shoulders. No give in the cloth, so take your size rather than sizing down for closeness.

Styling and care

Under everything, which is the point: under the Cavalier Twill Shrunken Blazer, under the Eco Poplin Bubble Hem Shirt Jacket, with the Italian Sporty Nylon Bubble Short in summer. Machine wash cool and hang to dry; polyester is easy in water and will not take heat, so keep it out of a dryer and away from a hot iron. Our care guidance covers polyester.
