Tibi Washable Cashmere Easy Mens Hoodie

Cashmere is normally not washable, and the reason is structural. The fibre is covered in microscopic scales, and agitation with heat and water opens them, tangles them, and locks them together permanently. That is felting, and it is why a cashmere sweater that goes through a hot cycle comes out a size smaller and stays that way. Tibi’s washable cashmere is a wool and cashmere blend, seventy parts to thirty, spun and finished so that the machine is no longer the enemy, and the practical consequence is larger than it sounds: it changes what the garment is for. A cashmere hoodie you must take to a cleaner is a garment for good days. One you can put in the wash is a garment for every day, and every day is the only condition under which a hoodie is worth owning. The weight is the other decision here. It is light enough to be the outer layer in April and dense enough to be the middle layer in January, which is the range the house was aiming at and the reason it names this among its Without Fail pieces, the ones a wardrobe is built around rather than the ones that come and go.

Why we selected it

The whole argument for a fibre like this collapses if owning it is a chore. This one removes the chore without removing the fibre, and it is the piece from the house that gets worn into the ground rather than kept for occasions.

Materials and construction

Seventy percent wool and thirty percent cashmere, in the house’s washable cashmere knit. Made in China. Navy. Hooded, cut on a men’s block.

Fit notes

Drafted on a men’s pattern, which means a straighter body and a longer sleeve than the house’s women’s knits, and it is worn oversized by most people rather than close. It layers over a tee comfortably and will go under a jacket, though not under a close-cut one.

Styling

Over the Washable Cashmere Oversize Easy T in the same yarn, which is a better idea than it sounds. With the Alec Jean, which is the obvious answer. Under the Tropical Wool Liam Blazer, hood out, which is the version worth trying.

Care

Machine wash cool on a wool cycle, and dry flat rather than in a dryer, since washable refers to the wash and not to the heat. Fold it, never hang it, because a hood is weight and weight on a shoulder seam stretches a knit permanently. Our care guidance covers cashmere in more detail.
