Rick Owens F/W 25 Follo Scarf

The dimensions tell you what this is. At 140 by 200 centimetres it is not a neck scarf, it is a piece of cloth you can wrap, drape, sleep under on an aeroplane, or wear over the shoulders as an outer layer. Scale is the whole design, and it is what puts this in a different category from almost everything sold as a scarf.

The blend is the second decision and the correct one. Seventy percent cashmere gives it the warmth and the particular softness that only a fine animal fibre has. Thirty percent silk does three things: it adds strength, which cashmere lacks and which a piece this large needs, it gives the surface a faint lustre so the colour has depth, and it adds weight, so the scarf drapes and stays put rather than floating off the shoulder. A pure cashmere at this size would be beautiful and would slide off.

The edges are left raw rather than hemmed, which on a woven of this quality is a deliberate refusal. A hem would add a hard line at every border and change how the cloth falls. Raw, it simply ends.

Rosewood is a muted brown-pink, and it is a considerably more interesting neutral than grey.

Why we selected it

We wanted one very good large scarf in the store, and the size is why it is this one. It works on a man or a woman, it works over a coat or instead of one, and it is the single most useful thing to own in a place where the temperature drops thirty degrees after sunset. That is a Santa Fe argument and it is a real one.

Materials and construction

Seventy percent cashmere and thirty percent silk. Made in Italy, in Rosewood. Rectangular, 140cm by 200cm, with raw edges. One size. From the Fall/Winter 2025 Concordians collection.

Sizing and dimensions

140cm by 200cm, which is roughly four and a half feet by six and a half. That is large enough to wear as a wrap, fold in half and still have a substantial scarf, or use as a shawl over a coat. It is not a small accessory and it should not be bought expecting one.

How it is worn

Over a coat, doubled and looped, is the winter version. Open over the shoulders in a cool evening is the other one. Rosewood against black, against charcoal, or against brown leather. It reads as considered rather than as decorative, which is a difficult thing for a large coloured scarf to manage.

Care

Cashmere and silk want as little washing as possible. Air it rather than cleaning it, fold it rather than hanging it, and when it needs attention use a specialist rather than a machine. The raw edges will shed a few threads and settle; that is the finish behaving as intended and it should not be trimmed. Our care guidance covers the general principles.
