This is the plainest version of the house’s most useful trouser, and the plainness is the point. Heavyweight cotton with nothing else in it, cut wide and straight on a low rise. There is no elastane to make it comfortable, no polyurethane to give it a surface, and no wash to make it look worn. It is the pattern in its undressed state.
What a heavyweight cotton does with no stretch in it is hold a shape. The leg falls in a straight column from the hip rather than following the thigh, and the trouser keeps that line whether you are standing or sitting. That is what a jean did before the category discovered elastane, and it is why a rigid cotton at this weight still reads as more serious than a stretch one.
Forest is the departure. The house’s palette is famously narrow, and a deep green is nearly the widest excursion it makes. It behaves as a neutral in low light and unmistakably as a colour in daylight, which is the useful property of every good dark green.
Why we selected it
We already carry the Geth in other cloths, and we took this one for the colour and for the weight. It is the pair to buy if you want the cut without anything else going on, and the rigid cotton means it will outlast the treated versions by a good margin.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent cotton, in a heavyweight cloth. Made in Italy, in Forest. Straight leg, wide fit, low rise.
Fit notes
Wide, straight, and low, which is a proportion that reads bigger on a hanger than on a body. No stretch at all, so buy the waist you can sit down in comfortably rather than the one you intend to reach. A heavy cotton will soften considerably in the first weeks without changing size.
Styling
With a boot or a heavy sneaker, and the hem breaking over it. Forest with black, with bone, or with brown leather. It is a jean and it will take anything above it.
Care
Wash cool, inside out, and hang to dry. A deep dyed cotton will lose colour from heat and friction more than from washing, so keep it out of a hot dryer if you want the green to stay green. Our care guidance covers the general principles.
