Rick Owens SS26 Minimal Sneaks – Black

The whole story here is subtraction. The house’s footwear is famous for mass: doubled soles, extended tongues, shafts to the calf. The Minimal is what is left when all of that is taken away and only the proportions remain. A low top, six eyelets rather than the usual dozen, and a shark-tooth sole cut thin instead of stacked.

What survives the reduction is the side stripe, angled rather than horizontal and set in a contrasting colour, which is the house’s oldest sneaker signature and the one element that would be missed. It is the detail that stops a very plain shoe from being an anonymous one.

The shark tooth is worth explaining, since the name is the house’s own. The sole is cut with a serrated profile so the edge reads as a row of angled teeth rather than as a smooth band. On the tall sneakers it is architectural. Cut thin, as here, it becomes a piece of fine detail visible only close up, which is the whole argument for this version of the shoe.

Why we selected it

Not everyone who loves this house wants to walk into a meeting in a mid-calf sneaker. The Minimal is the answer to that, and it is the shoe we sell to the person who wants the house’s proportions in something they can wear five days a week. It is also, unusually for Owens footwear, genuinely easy to walk in.

Materials and construction

Details in 100% calf leather. Lining in 100% lamb leather. Insole in 100% calf leather. Sole in 100% rubber. Low top, six-eyelet lacing, thin shark-tooth sole, angled contrast side stripe. From the Spring/Summer 2026 Temple collection.

Fit notes

A low-top sneaker with a thin sole sits closer to the ground than anything else in the house’s footwear and will feel markedly lighter than the Geobasket. Six eyelets means less adjustment across the instep than a conventional lacing gives, so a high instep is worth checking. Try them on if you can.

Styling

With a cropped or wide trouser, and with tailoring, which is the whole reason this version exists. The contrast stripe does the work, so nothing else in the outfit needs to.

Care

Brush rather than wash, let them dry naturally and away from heat, and use trees or paper to hold the shape. We are not giving upper-specific advice until the material is confirmed, since suede and nylon want opposite treatment. Our care guidance covers the general principles.
