Tibi Daisy Embroidered Short Dress

Embroidery is heavier than the cloth it sits on, and that is the problem every embroidered garment has to solve. Stitch a dense flower into a fine silk satin and the silk puckers around it, permanently. A high-density polyamide satin is a different substrate: the fibre is strong, the weave is tight, and it carries stitching without distorting under it, which is what allows the flowers here to run along the hem in relief rather than sinking into the ground. The scalloped hem is the detail that makes the embroidery make sense, since a scallop is already a decorated edge and the flowers are following a line that exists rather than inventing one. Then the back opens. A cutout at the back of a short satin dress is the whole difference between something sweet and something that is not, and the house has kept the front entirely plain so the reversal lands.

Why we selected it

Most embroidered dresses are asking to be looked at from the front. This one is plain from the front and does everything behind you, which is a considerably more adult version of the same idea.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent polyamide, in a high-density satin. Black. Custom embroidery along a scalloped hem, a back cutout, adjustable straps, and a zip beneath the cutout.

Fit notes

Short, with adjustable straps setting the drop at the shoulder, so the length is the fixed decision and the fit is not. A polyamide satin has no give at all, so take the size that closes comfortably rather than the one that nearly does.

Styling

Alone, since the back is the garment. If it needs a layer, the Cashmere Suiting Liam Blazer over the top and off again later. Flat shoes.

Care

Polyamide satin is durable in the wash and fragile at the iron, and the embroidery is the part that will not survive heat or a snagging cycle. Cool hand wash or dry clean, and never press directly on the flowers. Our care guidance covers nylon and technical cloth.
