Tibi Italian Sporty Nylon Bubble Short

The bubble is what makes this a garment rather than a pair of shorts. Cloth is gathered out through the leg and drawn back in at the hem, which produces a rounded volume that stands away from the body, and from any distance it reads as a short skirt. Up close it is not, and everything a short can do that a skirt cannot still applies: you can sit anywhere, walk anywhere, and go up a staircase without thinking. The cloth is what allows the shape. A sporty Italian technical woven is light, smooth, and structured enough to hold a gather open rather than letting it fall closed, which is the difference between a bubble and a wrinkle. The pockets are real and the closure is a back zip, so the front stays clean. It is a warm-weather garment that works in cold weather over tights, which is not a compromise but the way the volume was designed to be used.

Why we selected it

Shorts are the hardest category to buy well for adults, and most of the good answers are menswear answers. This is a short that is a proper garment rather than a concession to the weather, and there are very few of those.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent polyester, in an Italian sporty technical woven. Made in China. Black. Bubble hem, pockets, and a back zip closure.

Fit notes

Sits at the waist with volume through the leg and a gathered hem, so it reads fuller and shorter than a tailored short. No give in the cloth, so the waist is the fit decision. The volume means a close top is the better balance.

Styling

With the Pebble Sable Square Neck Cross Back Tank in summer. With the Sculpted Cotton Long Sleeve Top and tights when it turns. Under the Eco Poplin Bubble Hem Shirt Jacket, which is two bubbles and should not work, and does.

Care

Polyester washes easily and hates heat, which is what glazes the surface and flattens a gathered hem permanently. Wash cool, hang to dry, no dryer, and leave the hem alone with an iron. Our care guidance covers polyester and technical cloth.
