Tibi Nylon Zipper Trouser

A slit in a trouser is normally a fixed decision made by whoever cut it. Here it is not fixed. A silver zip runs the entire length of the outside leg, from the waistband down to the ankle, and where you stop it is where the trouser opens. Closed all the way, it is a clean straight leg with a bright line of hardware down the side. Opened at the ankle it moves like something split. Opened higher it is a different garment, and there is no point at which it stops being deliberate. That kind of adjustability only works in a cloth that will not distort around the zip tape, which is where the compact nylon comes in: it is a tightly constructed Japanese technical cloth, smooth-faced, durable, and stable enough to carry a full-length zip without rippling along it. The waistband is a conventional trouser waistband rather than an elastic one, and the pockets are real. Both of those matter, because the whole idea only reads as design rather than as sportswear if everything around it is properly made.

Why we selected it

Adjustable clothing usually means clothing that has not decided. This one has decided, several times over, and lets you pick which decision applies today. That is a genuinely different thing.

Materials and construction

Eighty-three percent polyester and seventeen percent polyamide, in the Japanese compact nylon the house uses across this group. Black. Full-length silver zip from waistband to ankle, trouser waistband, and pockets.

Fit notes

Cut as a straight trouser, sitting at the waist, with the leg line changing entirely depending on how far the zip is opened. A compact technical cloth has no give, so the waist is the fit decision. Consider the shoe before the trouser here, since an open zip at the ankle changes what works underneath it.

Styling

With the Washable Cashmere Oversize Easy T, soft against technical, which is the pairing the cloth is asking for. Under the Cavalier Twill Shrunken Blazer. With the Nylon Lantern Skirt’s own sibling logic in mind: this and that skirt are the same cloth, and wearing both at once is one idea too many.

Care

Technical nylon and polyester wash easily and cannot take heat, which will glaze the surface and damage the zip tape. Wash cool, hang to dry, no dryer, and close the zip before washing so the teeth do not catch. Our care guidance covers nylon and technical cloth.
