4S Designs Work Shirt – Tweed

Seven separate components in one cloth is very unusual and expensive to spin, so it is worth being clear about what it buys. Just under half is polyester, a fifth is polyamide, fifteen percent is cotton, five percent acrylic and two percent polyurethane, and the remaining nine percent is given over entirely to metallic and iridescent yarns. That last nine percent is the whole reason the cloth exists. Because the shine is spun into the yarn rather than laid on the surface, it moves when the fabric moves and it will not rub off at the cuff, and because it is distributed through a tweed structure it breaks up rather than sheeting, so the cloth glimmers in patches instead of gleaming flat. Pink, which is a very deliberate choice under a metallic: a warm color takes a metallic yarn without going cold or industrial. Then the collar is denim, in plain indigo cotton, which is the most ordinary material in the entire garment and is doing the most work, because it is the thing that stops a metallic pink tweed shirt from floating away from reality.

Why we selected it

A decorative cloth is only worth owning if the decoration is structural, and this one’s is. The denim collar is the decision that makes the shirt wearable rather than remarkable, and it is the reason we took it.

Setting a plain material against an extravagant one, at the collar, is a move this house repeats across the collection, and here it is the whole design.

Materials and construction

Forty-nine percent polyester, twenty percent polyamide, fifteen percent cotton, five percent acrylic, and two percent polyurethane, with a further nine percent of metallic and iridescent yarns. Made in Italy. Woven as a tweed, with a denim collar, two chest pockets, and a boxy cut. Color: Pink.

Fit notes

Sized Medium and Large. Boxy means square through the body and short in relation to its width, so it hangs from the shoulder and does not follow the waist. A tweed at shirt weight has more body than a shirting cotton and will hold that square shape rather than collapsing into it.

Styling

Over the Long Sleeve Woven Polo, or under the PL Bar Blazer if the metallic should only appear at the collar and cuff. With the H. Sartorial Pant or the Triple Pleat Pant, both black, which is the only sensible ground for it. Not with the Dolaman Cardigan/Coat.

Care

The metallic yarns decide this. No heat, no hot iron, and no tumble dryer, or the shine will dull and will not come back. Have it cleaned and mention the metallic and the denim collar, since indigo can transfer. Our care guidance covers the rest.
