Tibi Circular Fine Rib T Tank

Half the yarn here is cotton and half is modal, and the split is the whole design. Modal is a regenerated cellulosic spun from wood pulp, finer and smoother than cotton and stronger wet than a standard viscose, and it takes dye deeply. A cloth built half from it has a cool, close, slightly lustrous surface where an all-cotton rib would be dry and faintly fuzzy. The rib is a two-by-one, which is flatter and finer than the usual one-by-one and draws in less across the body, so it holds without gripping. The four percent elastane is not there to make it stretch. It is there to make it come back.

Why we selected it

A base layer is judged on whether it stays flat and stays put, and this one does both because of the rib rather than because it is tight. It is one of the house’s Without Fail pieces, the term Tibi uses for what a wardrobe is built around rather than what passes through it, and that is exactly how it gets worn.

Materials and construction

Forty-eight percent cotton, forty-eight percent modal, and four percent elastane, in a fine two-by-one rib. Made in Peru. Round neckline, sleeveless, cut close.

Fit notes

A fine rib stretches far more across the body than along it, so it reads narrower flat than it wears. The elastane gives it genuine recovery, which is what keeps a close tank from growing across a day and what separates this from a rib that goes slack by the afternoon. Take your usual size; the rib does the accommodating.

Styling and care

Wash cool and dry flat: heat is what destroys the elastane’s recovery permanently, and a cellulosic like modal is weaker wet than dry, so it should not be wrung.
