A rib is a knit structure rather than a pattern: columns of stitch alternating face and reverse, so the fabric contracts across its width and gains far more sideways stretch than a plain jersey has. On a long-sleeved tee that does two things at once. It holds the body and returns rather than growing, and the vertical columns lengthen whatever they run down, which is why a ribbed sleeve reads narrower than a jersey one cut to the same width. In pure cotton with nothing else in it, that recovery is coming from the geometry of the knit and not from a fibre.
Why we selected it
There is a version of this garment in every shop and almost all of them are jersey. A rib in plain cotton is firmer, holds its line at the neck and the cuff without a separate band doing the work, and lies flat under a layer. That is the whole reason and it is a short one.

One hundred percent cotton, in a rib. Crew neckline, long sleeves.
Fit notes
A rib stretches across the body far more than along it, so it reads narrower flat than it wears. Cotton with no elastane in it recovers through washing rather than instantly, so expect it to relax across a day and come back rather than to spring back on the body. Take your usual size.
Styling and care
