Tibi Mock Neck Unisex T

A mock neck is the least discussed decision in a tee and one of the most consequential. A crew ends at the base of the neck and leaves the collarbone open. A mock stands a short way up it and closes that space, which shortens the neck slightly, squares the shoulders in silhouette, and makes a plain tee read as decided rather than as an undershirt. On a boxy body it is the only shaping the garment has. Everything else here is plain cotton, cut straight and light enough to go under things without showing.

Why we selected it

A unisex tee is usually a men’s tee with the word unisex attached to it. This one is drafted boxy from the start, which is what lets it work on both. It is also one of the house’s Without Fail pieces, the term Tibi uses for what a wardrobe is built around rather than what passes through it.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cotton, lightweight. Made in China. Dune. Mock neckline, boxy cut.

Fit notes

Boxy through the body, so it reads square rather than fitted and sits the same way on very different frames. Cotton jersey relaxes across a day and recovers with washing. Take your usual size; sizing up turns a boxy tee into a large one, which is a different garment rather than a looser version of this one.

Styling and care

Under the Cavalier Twill Shrunken Blazer or the Tropical Wool Liam Blazer, where a mock neck under a lapel is a better line than a crew. With the Bio Twill Triple Pleat Cropped Pant. With the Alec Jean and nothing else. Wash cool inside out and hang to dry, and keep it out of a hot dryer, which is what shortens a light cotton and takes the depth out of a colour.
