Yeung Chin Crop Vest Jacket

The useful thing about a vest is that it adds a layer without adding a sleeve, which means it can go over anything, including the oversized and tied and draped garments that a jacket would fight. Cropping it makes that more true rather than less: a short vest ends above the widest part of most things worn under it, so it does not compress a layered dress or flatten a raw hem. Ties instead of buttons keep the same logic going, since a tie closes at whatever tension the cloth underneath will take. It is lightweight cotton, which is the fiber that makes the whole proposition work, because a heavy vest over a light garment is just a jacket with the sleeves cut off.

Why we selected it

Nearly everything this house makes is cut to be layered, and an outer layer that does not flatten what is under it is a genuinely hard thing to find. This one does the job without adding weight.

Yeung Chin builds garments around ties and surplus cloth rather than around tailoring, and this is that idea at its smallest and plainest.

Fit notes

Cropped, so it sits above the waist and does not interfere with whatever is under it. The ties make the front adjustable rather than fixed, which is what lets it go over garments of very different volumes. Sleeveless, so it adds nothing at the arm and can go under a coat.

Styling

Care
